Ghana Armed Forces participate in African Lion

Operatives from the Ghana Army Special Forces and the Ghana Navy Special Boat Squadron participated in Exercise African Lion in Morocco from 15-28 May 2024.

The 2024 edition of the annual military exercise involved operatives from USA, Hungary, Israel and Ghana. It focused on enhancing interoperability, promoting regional stability and strengthening military to military relations. 

Participants engaged in a wide range of training activities including live firing exercises, medical training, fast roping and close quarter battle drills to test the ability of troops to work together effectively in a variety of scenarios. 

Addressing the exercise troops, the Commanding Officer of Morocco’s Special Forces, Colonel Farid Ouahabi said the exercise has enhanced the skills of Moroccan Special Forces. He added that it has helped exchange knowledge and forged lasting partnership which he emphasised would help to tackle complex challenges and share best practices.

“Special Operation Forces were at the cutting edge of modern warfare”. He added

He acknowledged that Exercise African Lion 2024 did not only strengthen the operational capabilities of the Special Forces but also fostered lasting personal bonds between the military personnel.

“The friendship and bonds forged during the exercise would undoubtedly form the basis for future collaborations”, He added. 

Colonel Ouahabi described African Lion 2024 as a resounding success, demonstrating the commitment of participating nations to working together to promote peace and stability in Africa. He presented a plaque to each of the participating countries, commending them for their cooperation and professionalism during the exercises.
